Okayama Korakuen Garden

Okayama Korakuen Garden

Okayama Korakuen (後楽園), also known as Korakuen Garden, is one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan, along with Kenrokuen Garden in Kanazawa and Kairakuen Garden in Mito. It is located in Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture, and is considered one of the most beautiful gardens in Japan.

Korakuen Garden was established in 1700 by Ikeda Tsunamasa, the feudal lord of Okayama, and covers an area of 133,000 square meters. The garden features a large central pond, rolling lawns, walking paths and tea houses dating back to the 18th century.

One of the unique features of Korakuen Garden is its use of water from the nearby Asahi River. The water is diverted into the central pond, which is then used to irrigate the surrounding gardens and fields, creating a sustainable ecosystem that has been in place for centuries.

Korakuen Garden is also known for its seasonal beauty, with cherry blossoms in the spring, lush greenery in the summer, vibrant fall foliage in the autumn, and snowy landscapes in the winter. The garden is open year-round and attracts visitors from all over Japan and around the world.
