Nebuta Museum WA RASSE is a museum located in Aomori City, Aomori Prefecture, Japan, dedicated to the Nebuta Festival, one of the largest and most famous festivals in Japan, held annually from August 2nd to 7th.
At the museum, visitors can learn about the history and traditions of the Nebuta Festival and view stunning nebuta floats up close. The museum features five large nebuta floats from the previous year’s festival and one award-winning nebuta. The exhibits include interactive displays, audiovisual presentations, and workshops where visitors can try their hand at making mini-nebuta floats or lanterns.
One of the highlights of the museum is the “Nebuta Experience Room,” where visitors can watch videos of the festival on a large screen, enjoy live performances of traditional Nebuta music, and even participate in the “Haneto” experience, where they can dress up in traditional festival attire and dance alongside a nebuta float.
Visitors may also have the opportunity to witness live demonstrations by Nebuta artisans (Nebuta-shi) who create these magnificent floats. Additionally, the museum’s restaurant, “kitchen WASSE,” offers a taste of Aomori’s local cuisine, including dishes inspired by the Nebuta Festival. There is also a gift shop where visitors can purchase souvenirs related to the Nebuta Festival.
