Devil’s Washboard

Aoshima Island (青島) is a small island located in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan. The island is situated in the Pacific Ocean, approximately 20 kilometers south of Miyazaki City.

Aoshima Island is known for its beautiful beaches and unique natural formations, including the “Devil’s Washboard,” a natural rock formation that looks like a series of steps on the ocean floor. The island is also home to a large population of cats, which are a popular attraction for visitors.

One of the most popular attractions on Aoshima Island is the Aoshima Shrine, which is located in the center of the island. The shrine is dedicated to the Shinto deities Yamasachihiko and Toyotama-hime, who are associated with marriage and good fortune in fishing and seafaring.

Visitors to Aoshima Island can also enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including swimming, snorkeling, and fishing. There are several restaurants and cafes on the island that serve local seafood dishes, including sashimi and grilled fish.
