Hokkaido (北海道) is the northernmost and second-largest island of Japan. It is located in the northern part of Japan, separated from the main island of Honshu by the Tsugaru Strait. Hokkaido has a total area of about 83,450 square kilometers and a population of approximately 5.3 million people.
Hokkaido has a rich natural environment with many national parks, mountains, lakes, and forests. Some of the famous tourist attractions in Hokkaido include the Sapporo Snow Festival, Furano lavender fields, Shiretoko National Park, and the Asahiyama Zoo. Hokkaido is also known for its fresh seafood, dairy products, and agricultural produce, such as potatoes and corn.
Hokkaido has a unique history and culture, with influences from the indigenous Ainu people, as well as from Russian, Chinese, and Western cultures. The region is also famous for its winter sports, such as skiing and snowboarding, and has hosted the Winter Olympics in the past.
