The Nagasaki Confucius Shrine (孔子廟), also known as the Nagasaki Koshi-byo, is a Confucian shrine located in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The shrine was built in 1893 by the local Chinese community with the support of the Qing dynasty government to honor Confucius, the Chinese philosopher and educator who is revered as a great sage in many parts of Asia.
The shrine features traditional Chinese architectural elements, including a main gate, a courtyard, and several buildings with red walls and green-tiled roofs.
Visitors to the shrine can view a variety of exhibits and artifacts related to Chinese history and culture at the Historical Museum of China, which is located within the shrine grounds. The museum houses a collection of ancient Chinese texts and writings, historical artifacts, and other items that provide insights into China’s rich cultural heritage. The shrine also hosts various events and ceremonies throughout the year, including the annual Confucius Memorial Ceremony, which takes place on September 28.
