Mount Inasa

Mount Inasa

Mount Inasa (稲佐山) is a mountain located in Nagasaki, Japan, and one of the city’s most popular tourist attractions. It is renowned for its spectacular views of Nagasaki Bay and the surrounding cityscape, particularly its night view, recognized as one of the “New Top Three Night Views in the World” in 2012.

The mountain is 333 meters high and can be accessed by a ropeway, one of the largest in Japan with a capacity of 101 passengers, which takes visitors to the summit in just a few minutes, offering breathtaking views of the city below. Alternatively, visitors can reach the summit by bus, taxi, or car. From Nagasaki Station, the ropeway station is about 15 minutes by bus or 10 minutes by taxi. For those driving, there is a parking lot at the summit.

At the top of the mountain, Inasayama Park features an observation deck that provides panoramic views of Nagasaki and its surroundings. The observation deck is open day and night, attracting many visitors who come to see the sunset and the city lights at night, often referred to as the “10 million dollar night view.”

Inasayama Park also offers a restaurant, souvenir shop, hiking trails, open spaces, and monuments, including a popular heart-shaped monument for couples. Additionally, the park includes the “Tsutsuji-en” azalea garden, famous for its beautiful azaleas in spring.

Mount Inasa is a must-visit destination for anyone visiting Nagasaki. Whether you’re taking in the stunning views from the observation deck, enjoying a meal at the restaurant, or exploring the mountain’s hiking trails and gardens, there’s something for everyone at this iconic landmark. The area surrounding Mount Inasa also boasts other major tourist attractions such as Glover Garden and Oura Cathedral, making it a convenient and fulfilling addition to any Nagasaki itinerary.
