The Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum (長崎県美術館) is a modern and contemporary art museum located in Nagasaki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The museum focuses on exhibiting works by artists connected to Nagasaki, with a particular emphasis on the Spanish art collection donated by Suma Yakichiro, as well as international art.
The museum features two main types of permanent exhibitions:
- Collection Exhibition: Showcases paintings, sculptures, prints, and photographs by artists associated with Nagasaki, along with the museum’s notable collection of Spanish art.
- Themed Exhibition: Features curated exhibitions on specific themes, often including both local and international artists.
In addition to the permanent collection, the museum hosts various temporary exhibitions throughout the year, showcasing a wide range of art styles and mediums by both established and emerging artists. The museum also offers lectures and gallery talks, providing visitors with opportunities to engage with art. Visitors can also relax and enjoy refreshments at the museum shop and café after exploring the art. The museum was designed by architect Kengo Kuma and opened in April 2005.
