Sugamo

Sugamo

Sugamo (巣鴨) is a district located in Toshima ward, Tokyo, Japan. It is known for its shopping street, which is often called the “Harajuku for grannies”. The area is popular among elderly people, who visit the shopping street to buy traditional Japanese goods, such as sweets, clothes, and other souvenirs.

The shopping street in Sugamo is called Jizo-dori, and it is lined with traditional Japanese shops and stalls that sell a wide range of goods. The street is named after a nearby Buddhist temple called Kogan-ji, which is famous for its Jizo statues. The Jizo statues are believed to bring good luck and prosperity, and visitors can buy small Jizo statues or other traditional Japanese souvenirs at the shops along Jizo-dori.

Aside from the shopping street, Sugamo also has several other attractions, such as Rikugien Garden, which is a traditional Japanese garden that features a large pond, walking paths, and cherry blossoms in the spring. Sugamo also has several shrines and temples, including the aforementioned Kogan-ji Temple.
