Kumamoto City (熊本) is the capital city of Kumamoto Prefecture, located on the island of Kyushu in Japan. It is known for its castle, gardens, and historical landmarks.
One of the biggest tourist attractions in Kumamoto is Kumamoto Castle, a castle whose construction started in 1467 and was completed in 1607. Some parts of the castle, including the main tower, were destroyed by fire during the Satsuma Rebellion in 1877. The main tower was rebuilt in 1960 using concrete. Tourists can explore the grounds and buildings of the castle and enjoy the stunning views of Kumamoto City.
Another popular attraction in Kumamoto City is Suizenji Jojuen Garden, a traditional Japanese garden built in the 17th century. The garden features a large pond, a teahouse, and several miniature landscapes, including a replica of Mount Fuji.
The city also has several museums, including the Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art, which features a collection of Japanese and Western art, and the Kumamoto City Museum of Contemporary Art, which showcases modern art by Japanese and international artists.
In addition to its cultural attractions, Kumamoto City is known for its local cuisine, including Kumamoto ramen, a type of ramen with a rich, pork-based broth, and basashi, which is raw horse meat.
