Nijo Castle

Nijo Castle

Nijo Castle (二条城) in Kyoto was built in the early 17th century and was the residence of the Tokugawa shoguns when they visited Kyoto.
The Castle is a historical spot that served as a stage for the Great Restoration of Japan, which marked the end of the feudal system in Japan.

The castle is famous for its unique architecture and design, including its “nightingale floors,” which are designed to make a chirping sound when walked upon to alert guards of potential intruders. The castle also features beautiful gardens, moats, and other defensive structures.

Visitors to Nijo Castle can explore the castle’s many buildings and gardens, including the Ninomaru Palace, which was built for the shoguns and is known for its ornate decoration and intricate wood carvings.
