Kyoto Prefecture (京都府) is a prefecture located in the Kansai region of Honshu, the main island of Japan. It surrounds the city of Kyoto, which is its capital and largest city. The prefecture is known for its rich cultural heritage, including numerous temples, shrines, and historic buildings.

Some of the most famous attractions in Kyoto Prefecture include Kiyomizu-dera, a historic temple that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto”; Fushimi Inari Taisha, a shrine famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that lead up to Mount Inari; and the Uji region, which is famous for its green tea and is home to the Byodo-in Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Kyoto Prefecture is also known for its traditional Japanese cuisine, including kaiseki ryori, a multi-course meal that is carefully prepared and presented to showcase the beauty and flavors of seasonal ingredients. The prefecture is also famous for its sake, which is brewed in the nearby Fushimi region and is enjoyed by people throughout Japan.
