Sensoji Temple(浅草寺), also known as Asakusa Temple, is a Buddhist temple located in the Asakusa district of Tokyo, Japan. It is one of the most popular and well-known temples in the city, attracting millions of visitors each year.
According to legend, the temple was founded in the 7th century when two fishermen caught a statue of Kannon in the nearby Sumida River.
Today, Sensoji Temple is a sprawling complex that includes multiple buildings, gates, and gardens. The temple’s main gate, known as the Kaminarimon or “Thunder Gate,” features a massive paper lantern and a statue of Fujin, the god of wind, and Raijin, the god of thunder. Beyond the gate, visitors can explore the Nakamise shopping street, which features a variety of souvenir shops and food stands, before reaching the temple’s main hall.
At the heart of the temple is the impressive main hall, which features a large altar and a number of beautifully decorated rooms and corridors.
