Tsukiji Outside Market (築地場外市場) is a popular spot in Tokyo that surrounds the outside of the Tsukiji Market, which existed until 2018. The outer market is a collection of small shops and restaurants that offer a variety of fresh seafood, produce, and other Japanese food items.
The market is a bustling area where visitors can wander through the narrow streets and alleyways, sampling fresh sushi, sashimi, and other seafood dishes. The outer market is also known for its wide range of specialty shops, selling everything from traditional Japanese knives to handmade ceramics and lacquerware.
Other notable attractions in the outer market include the Tsukiji Hongan-ji Temple, which is a modern Buddhist temple that stands out with its unique Indian-inspired architecture, and the Namiyoke Inari Shrine, which is dedicated to the god of the sea and offers blessings for a good catch.
The market has now moved to Toyosu and is operating as Toyosu Market.
